Cleveland Point Home Featured in QWeekend
This house in Brisbane’s east literally sits on Moreton Bay. Colleen Young's house on the shoreline at Cleveland Point, on Brisbane's southern bayside, has a casual, contemporary Asian vibe that reflects her 30 trips to Bali over the past 20 years.
Much of the decor, including glassware, timber furniture and even the stones used in the entry wall, is redolent of the Indonesian holiday isle.
Paul Braithwaite, of Sunshine Coast based Sprout Architects, designed Young's four-bedroom, single-storey house with independent spaces for her daughter Claudia, 16, and son Nat, 13, who have their own ensuites, balconies and separate entry.
The family previously lived for 18 years in the same street on the opposite side of the road in a house Braithwaite had also renovated. "This design builds on the idea of an oasis where the boundaries of indoor and outdoor living are blurred,'' Braithwaite says.
An existing boatshed (a retreat for Nat and his mates) and a refurbished jetty recall the site's long-gone fishing shack days, while open-plan spaces spilling onto huge decks, and a pool that glistens through the loungeroom windows, epitomise the many joys of modern waterfront living.
